What is CROP WALK?
The CROP Hunger Walk is Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty in an annual event that combines fun and fundraising to raise money for hungry people throughout the world. Walkers invite friends to sponsor them with a contribution of $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, or more.

Who walks?
Anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of hungry people is invited. Walkers come from the Greater Kansas City Metro religious community, schools, businesses and nonprofit agencies. Over 2,500 people walk in the Heart of America CROP Hunger Walk each year.

Form a team in your congregation, school, workplace, or neighborhood.

Why walk?
Hungry people in developing countries typically walk as much as 10 kilometers each day to get food, water, and fuel, and to take their goods to market. CROP Hunger Walk provides us an opportunity to WALK WITH THE WORLD. We walk to be in solidarity with their struggle for existence. We walk to make a difference.

Who sponsors the walk?
CROP Hunger Walk is sponsored nationally by Church World Service (CWS), one of the most effective and efficient relief services in the world. Locally, faith groups who have a passion to STOP HUNGER sponsor the walk. They represent a broad spectrum of the Kansas City Metro religious communities.

How is the money spent?
75% is distributed by CWS, which since 1946 has carried out global hunger education and provided money for refugees, disaster relief and self-help projects in more than 80 countries. 25% of the money stays here in the Greater Metro Area and is distributed to local hunger-related agencies.

From the 2009 Heart of America CROP Hunger Walk, $19,500 went to local agencies addressing hunger in our greater Kansas City metropolitan area. The Hickman Mills Community Assistance Council was one of those groups. To read their thank you letter,

The Heart of America (HoA) CROP Hunger Walk is one of the 10 largest walks in the United States.

How can I help?

Obtain sponsors and join the fun by walking on Sunday, October 10, 2010.

Can't Walk? Maybe you would like to Rock -  in a rocking chair. That's right, this year we will again offer the "rock within the walk". Last year's Rock was a lot of fun and allowed many folks who could not walk to still raise pledges and help fight hunger by rocking during our Walk. Their presence was a real testament to their perserverance and an inspiration to all the Walkers. To Rock, sign up just like a Walker.

Sponsor someone else who is walking (be generous!).
